Pair of Victorian sterling silver peppers of slightly tapering
octagonal form. The body of the peppers is decorated with chinese-style
hieroglyphics, as well as with a family crest of a lower arm held upright,
holding a cross. The bayonet, pull-off, lids are attractively pierced and are
surmounted by eastern style finials. A full set of hallmarks are struck on the
base of each pepper and are very clear indeed. Further marks are struck on the
flange of each lid. One set is very clear indeed. The set on the other lid is
clear but the maker's mark is rubbed.

he was thought to be the last individualist plateworker before the mass
