Stock No. 7248	Edward VII silver hunting horn
Edwardian sterling silver hunting horn of fluted shape, in very good working order, which is rare for a hunting horn, has a strong, melodious sound when blown. Made in London in 1908 by S Mordan & Co Ltd. The body of the horn has three raised parts to facilitate grip as well as a join higher up decorated by two bands of reeding. There is a set of hallmarks above and below this join. The full set of hallmarks is just above the fluted aperture and consists of the date mark, the leopard's head for London, the lion passant for sterling and the maker's mark. Above the join, the hallmarks consist of the leopard's head for London and the lion passant for sterling. Maker :- S. Mordan & Co Ltd

The company S. Mordan & Co Ltd (1898 - 1941) was part of the Mordan dynasty which started with Sampson Mordan in 1815. He was renowned for the production of novelty objects of extremely high quality, (particularly propelling pencils) and the emphasis on quality continued throughout the Mordan era. The hunting horn is only used by the Huntsman and the Master and these are sometimes the same person. The Hunting Act 2004 came into effect in February 2005, at which time the number of packs of foxhounds recognised by the Master of Foxhounds Association was 184.
