Charming silver medalet of the succession of Prince James struck in 1699 by Norbert Roettier. Obverse: Bust of Prince James looking left. Hair long and tied back, in armour. Legend: IAC: WALLIAE . PRINCEPS. Beneath - N. R. (Norbert Roettier). Reverse: The sun rising over a tranquil sea with ships, dispersing clouds and demons. Legend: SOLA . LUCE . FUGAT. (He disperses them by his light alone). Exergue: 1699. See Medallic Illustrations vol. I, p.204/519, where this medalet is rated as Rare.

According to Medallic Illustrations, this appears to be a complimentary medalet referring to the succession of the young Prince and ascribing him with the power to disperse, by his power alone, the clouds and noxious vapours obscuring and tainting the atmosphere of his royal house. The dies of this rare medalet are in the British Museum.
