Both Mary Chawner and the Lias partnership were excellent spoonmakers. The fiddle pattern came to England from France in about 1800 and is still made to-day. The pre-Victorian interpretation of this pattern was by far the most elegant since it had not yet become too wide and too large. There is a very pleasing balance to this table service. It would be a perfect set for family use since it is robust but still graceful.
