GEORGE I Sterling Silver Tazza by Thomas Morse. London 1722.
Very attractive sterling silver George I Tazza.
Made in London by Thomas Morse in 1722.
The Tazza is plain with a lightly reeded outer rim and stands on a raised foot.
The full set of hallmarks IS clearly marked on the top of the Tazza and the foot is extremely well stamped with the lion passant on the inside.
The centre is decoratively engraved with contemporary coat of arms - probably those of Willington impaling Higgins or OHiggins.
This is an early piece of silver in excellent condition and with a pleasing patina.
Apart from being a decorative piece in its own right. It would be very useful today for serving confectionary such as chocolates or sweetmeats.
