Eye-catching GEORGE III IRISH bright cut sterling silver soup ladle.
Maker: John Shields. Dublin 1785.
The ladle has a fluted circular bowl. The stem has bright cut engraving which is wriggle-edge on the sides and at the top of the pointed finial.
A contemporary family crest is engraved at the top of the stem as well as further bright cut decoration beneath.
The full set of hallmarks are stamped on the reverse of the stem. The makers mark is struck twice and the remaining marks are slightly rubbed but legible.
This is a very festive looking spoon of good weight and it could equally be used for fruit salad or other desserts as for soup.
