Charles I on horseback, head bare, in armour with truncheon in right hand, haunch of horse marked with a rose crowned. Above, eye of Providence; on the ground, his plumed helmet amidst flowers. Legend: CAROLVS AVGVSTISS. ET INVICTISS. MAG. BRIT. FRAN. ET HIB. MONARCHA. (The most august and invincible Charles, Monarch of Great Britain, France and Ireland.) Reverse: View of London from Southwark; above, mid-day sun in clouds and the letter E, indicating Edinburgh. Legend: SOL ORBEM REDIENS SIC REX ILLVMINAT VRBEM.
