Beautifully crafted George V sterling silver South Irish Light Infantry regimental whistle. Birmingham 1932 by JR Gaunt & Son. Three chains join a silver circular disk to a silver whistle within an ornate sheath. The disk has a shamrock border and centrally a separate shamrock with motto above QUIS SEPARABIT. Two bolts are riveted to the shamrock and pass through two holes in the disk and are each appended with a hallmarked washer and a nut. The fully hallmarked whistle has a plain body but the domed top is covered in shamrocks within a plain rim. The whistle is encased in a sterling silver sheath and held by a spring clasp. The cylindrical sheath has an acorn finial and hexagonal sides which are heavily applied with shamrocks. Two bolts are riveted to the whistle sheath and each appended with a washer and nut.

The high quality of craftsmanship of this whistle is not only obvious visually but is also borne out by the fact that every piece is hallmarked with the exception of the two washers on the whistle sheath which might well be replacements.
