Highly attractive ELIZABETH I West Country seal-top spoon.
Maker: Steven More of Totnes. Circa 1585.
The base of the stem of the spoon is struck with the letters ORE for Steven More of Totnes. He was formerly of Exeter but had moved to Totnes by 15th June 1574. More worked at Totnes for about 40 years making mostly Church plate for over seventeen parishes. Four of these parishes were in Cornwall and the remainder in the Totnes area.The top of the silver gilt seal is pin-pricked MP above MD with the date 1632 in between. Although this spoon is estimated has having been made in circa. 1585 is was used again for a different purpose in 1632.This spoon is extremely well made.
