First ever medal struck for distribution at a monarchs coronation in England. Silver official coronation medal for James I, 25 July, 1603. By Charles Anthony. Obverse: Bust of James I looking right, laureate and in armour, mantle tied in a knot on the shoulder and falling lace collar. Legend: IAC : I : BRIT : CAE : AVG : HAE CEASARVM CAE. D. D. (James I, Caesar Augustus of Britain, Caesar the heir of the Caesars, presents this medal). Reverse: Crowned lion rampant, looking left, holding a beacon and wheatsheaf. Legend: ECCE .
