Substantial and of very useful size oval George III sterling silver meat dish with shaped, gadrooned border. Although this dish was made in the 18th century, it was later engraved in the 19th century when it became the property of the Prime Minister, William Gladstone.

Arms: Later engraved coat of arms, crest and motto - GLADSTONE impaling GLYNNE.



Provenance: William Ewart GLADSTONE (1809 -1898) British Liberal politician and four times PRIME MINISTER, married on 25 July 1839 Catherine, daughter of Sir Stephen Glynne, 8th Bt.of Harwarden Castle, Flintshire.

Thence by descent.



The full set of hallmarks is very clearly stamped on the reverse of the base of the dish.
