George II Sterling Silver Pierced Triangular Serving Slice by William Plummer.
Very attractive George II sterling silver, pierced triangular serving slice with a distinctive handle.
Maker: William Plummer. London circa 1755.
The base of the handle is joined to the slice with a decorative dolphin, followed by a scrolled piece of silver and a shaped olive wood hand-hold.
The slice is beautifully pierced and engraved which is typical of William Plummers work.
The makers mark is very clearly stamped on the reverse of the slice but the other three hallmarks have slipped off the edge when is was being cut and are only just visible.
Although this object was mainly used for serving fish, today it would be extremely useful for serving pies, flans and cake etc.

Although the hallmarks are only semi-apparent, apart from the makers mark, this piece is in excellent condition and such items are very much sought after.
