GEORGE III Sterling Silver Shell Bowled Ladle by John Lampfert. London 1771.

Elegant sterling silver Onslow pattern shell bowled soup ladle. GEORGE III London 1771.
Maker: John Lampfert.
The reverse of the end of the stem has an engraved coat of arm which is quite worn. The attractive scroll at the end of the stem is particularly well made. John Lampfert is mainly known for his spoons.
The full set of hallmarks are stamped on the stems reverse at the base near the join to the bowl. The makers mark and the lion passant are clear but the kings head and the date mark are rubbed but legible.
Onslow is an 18th century pattern starting in circa 1760 but has been made intermittently up to the present day.
Length: 13 inches (33cm)
Bowl diameter: 3.7 inches (9.4cm)
Weight: 6 troy ounces (186.6 grams)

Sterlng silver

Very good and of good weight but some wear to the hallmarks and to the coat of arms.
